GIA Museum unveils ’Best of Platinum’

December 2009

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Museum has opened the doors to its latest exhibit, “Best of Platinum,” a showcase of 17 award-winning platinum jewelry pieces.

Platinum Guild International (PGI) assembled the designs from around the world, gathering them together for their U.S. debut.

“The exhibit is a collaboration of design excellence and creativity,” PGI Chief Executive Officer James Courage said in a media release. “We hand-selected each piece because it illustrates the high quality and versatility of platinum.”

Among the nations contributing designs are China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Africa and the United States, with highlights including pieces from the “Aqua Collection”—such as the “Iraja” necklace crafted from 450 grams of platinum and sparkling with 303 diamonds—and five pieces from the PlatAfrica design competition, a showcase of the best of platinum jewelry from professional and student designers in South Africa.
