A peacock displaying its tail is a thing of breathtaking beauty. It has fascinated people throughout the ages and in all cultures. The beautiful Peacock collection presented by Victor Mayer at the 2014 Basel fair is dedicated to all of these secrets.
It stimulates nearly all of the sensors in our brain attuned to the human appreciation of beauty: we look for a structure, which cannot be monotonous, for a recurring, identifiable pattern with discreet surprises; we react to harmonious proportions. We find all of these properties in the tail of the peacock. We do not need to measure these, we sense them instinctively.
As a consequence, the peacock is and was a special symbol in nearly every culture. In the early Christian church it was held to be the guardian of heaven, it belonged to the Greek goddess Hera and the Indian god Indra. In China it is a symbol of beauty, wealth, passion and eternal love and loyalty. On Bali it is considered part of the world of science, which is held there to be a charismatic force.
Reminiscent of a peacock‘s feather, the fire enamelled locket adorned with guilloché forms the centrepiece of the collection. In the highlight of the collection the peacock eye is symbolised by a briolette-cut gemstone with a bezel of brilliant-cut diamonds. The concentrically-arranged wave-like pattern of the guilloché generates the fine texture of the peacock feather. Those that prefer monochrome will find two locket models with an ornamentation that also bears reference to the eye on the tail of the peacock. The newly developed mechanism inside the locket is easy to open and provides room for two pictures in a foldable frame.
The accompanying rings and earrings incorporate the peacock guilloché and radiant enamel, focusing on the finely-faceted, hand-selected gemstone. The collection is a harmony of colour, available with the pastel gemstones heliodor, aquamarine, morganite and the intensely-coloured pink tourmaline.
