Atsuko Sano introduces an oriental version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with her fine jewellery collection, “Arabian Night”, presented in Paris in July. She evokes a sleeping woman, a Byzantine empress or Venetian courtesan, whose dreams of moonstones, dense and opaque, are split by the electrifying flashe of a red spinel, like a sudden poignant memory.

Tears of turquoise and pink opal flow; liquid and light merge in the soft iridescence of pale tourmaline. Atsuko Sano combines the refined purity of the diamond-set white gold of some of her jewellery with the antique opulence of imposing bracelets, conjuring up an Orient of myth and fantasy.

All the pieces have a common feature: they are transformable. Drop earrings become stud earrings and pendants; a necklace can be altered to suit day, evening and gala evening events; the central cabochon of a ring can be removed and replaced with another gemstone of a different hue; cuff bracelets can be taken apart to give a pair of drop earrings, a pendant and a brooch.

In her fine jewellery creations, Atsuko Sano has remained true to her motto: “Jewellery in Fashion”. The jewellery is chosen to match the outfit and adapts to it, a source of pleasure and joy.
