Muzo - The art of cutting

Muzo emeralds are exceptional gems distinguished by their near perfect hexagonal geometry when in raw form, their dimensions and their colour: a powerful and intense green, brightened by an innate yellow gleam.

Muzo enjoys a reputation as a gemstone brand capable of developing specific cuts and collections. Each Muzo emerald is crafted by the gem-cutters to high-light its unique personality. Its facets are skilfully sculpted by the Muzo master gem-cutters to accentuate the depth of colour and purity of the emeralds.

Some gemstones are cut in the classic manner (such as emerald, pear or cushion cut), while others take on more unexpected shapes (triangle, octagon, hexagon, etc.).

Muzo’s creative extravagance comes into its own with its cabochons, the oldest style of gem cut.

Pear-shaped, round or hexagonal emeralds are polished into a dome.

Masterpieces are characterized by their shape, great weight or exceptional shade of green.

The rarest emeralds combine all three criteria.

Muzo has established a training program carried out by a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, who regularly visits the cutting workshop in Bogota.

The company also set up training exchange programs with the BJOP school and SENA, its Colombian equivalent.

In the Bogota workshop, Colombian emerald cutting craftsmen closely evaluate the stones, searching for the slightest defect, precisely locating the placement of colour in order to determine the optimal cut.
