Christie’s Hong Kong - “Wallace Chan: The Beginning of a Genius”

Christie’s will present “Wallace Chan: The Beginning of a Genius”, an extraordinary collection created by the internationally famed jeweler and artist during his most innovative period of self-discovery in the late 20th century. This collection of works will form one of the highlights of the autumn sale of Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels on 28 November 2017.

Trained as a sculptor from an early age, Wallace Chan has over the span of four decades, created exquisite pieces from referencing traditional Chinese icons, incorporating elements of nature, and experimenting with elaborate sculptural flair. He continues to tirelessly experiment with different methods and materials to bring to life his poetic vision, embodying his design philosophy of harmonising the symbol of heaven, earth and humanity.

Featured in this auction is a comprehensive assemblage of his spectacular works spanning reinterpreted traditional icons such as Chinese zodiac signs made from carved jadeite, to contemporary designs like butterflies and flowers with gems of vibrant colours. All of which inspire an inner Zen and reflect Wallace’s wondrous craftsmanship.
