The Midnight Automatic 29mm is the latest timepiece by the luxury brand, a petite diamond-studded ladies’ watch that also boasts the first mechanical automatic movement in the 29mm case.

Harry Winston is a watch brands that strikes me as one to have the balance right between its gents and ladies’ watches. I suppose that’s logical given the company also focuses on other luxury products like jewellery that are aimed at the female market.

Not only do they produce a fair share of ladies’ watches, they are not simply fashion watches. Rather, they usually come with some serious mechanical movements under the hood.

The house’s Midnight Collection, for example, has always prioritized women’s timepieces, usually defined by their classical and refined aesthetic.

This year, the brand has continued with that trend with the introduction of a smaller 29mm model. Not only is this a smaller watch, but other design aspects have also been redesigned to produce a feminine timepiece.

The major rework, however, is the size of the new watch. Coming in at only 29mm across, the 18-karat gold case – available in either white or rose gold - looks to take on vintage proportions compared to the larger cases of its more contemporary cousin timepieces.

The smaller case also provided an opportunity for the watchmaker to fit it with a new and smaller mechanical automatic movement. As with other models, it is a relatively high end calibre, equipped with a flat silicon balance spring and a 22-karat gold rotor that sports beautiful hand finishes. It can all be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a ladies’ watch by Harry Winston if it didn’t feature any bling and sparkle. And the Midnight Automatic 29mm doesn’t disappoint there as the watch scintillates thanks to 64 brilliant-cut diamonds.

While the case of this model is smaller, the size of the diamonds remains. That means that the watch somehow presents itself as more luxurious, despite having a similar carat weight of diamonds.

The dial provides a delicate backdrop for the diamonds with Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o´clock. But even there the brand didn’t skimp on the bling. The new arrow-shaped hour markers, for example, are accented by eight brilliant-cut diamonds. The icing on the case is the emerald-cut diamond at the top of the dial.
