June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 14% bigger in exhibition space

Fair organiser UBM Asia Ltd opens its largest-ever June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair on 21 June at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and will run until 24 June. The fair, which is one of Asia’s top three fine jewellery events, will house more than 1,700 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions in 64,000 square metres of exhibition space, 14 percent bigger than any other June editions.

“This growth confirms the industry’s recognition of the June Fair as an effective way to promote products and meet target buyers,” said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs, UBM Asia Ltd.

Ms Lau added that Hong Kong’s free-trade policy, which offers a business-friendly environment for the international trade, has helped boost the mid-year fair’s attraction. “Hong Kong’s proximity to the booming economies of mainland China, India and the rest of Asia has made the city the preferred launch pad for companies looking to break into these markets.”

The June Fair’s location ― Hong Kong ― one of the world’s freest economies is an added value to the fair, she noted. “Hong Kong is a leading jewellery trade hub. In 2011, it was the world’s fifth largest exporter of precious jewellery. A lot of these exports are transacted at our jewellery fairs such as the June edition. This year, the June Fair will have a record number of 1,700-plus exhibitors. It will feature 14 group pavilions, including Antwerp, Brazil, mainland China, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United States, Taiwan region and the International Colored Gemstones Association.”

Ms Lau further noted the fair’s role in the diamond trade. “Demand for diamond jewellery has increased rapidly despite tough conditions in traditional diamond consuming markets in Europe and the US. Emerging economies such as China and India play a big part in this growth. Diamond traders from around the world come to our fairs to explore business opportunities. This year, we are proud to announce that the Diamond Pavilion is the biggest ever in the fair’s history. The expanded Diamond Pavilion now occupies Halls 3F and 3G as well as the Convention Hall. Total 415 diamond exhibitors from 10 countries and regions are in the Diamond Pavilion,” said Ms Lau, who thanked the industry and various associations for their support.

Aside from diamonds, a wide range of quality finished jewellery, gemstones and pearls and other jewellery raw materials await buyers.
