The Intergem (October, 3rd – 6th) ,just like its presented goods, is a sparkling and one-of-a-kind event in the long list of professional events. The trade fair in Idar-Oberstein is one of the most important international events concerning the fascination of gemstones.
Did you know that Angela Merkel’s black-red-and-gold necklace, which she wore during the TV-debate with Peer Steinbrück, was made by the Intergem exhibitor “Goldschmiede Weyrich” from Idar-Oberstein? Did you know that the great uncle of Intergem’s star guest every year, diamond cutting legend Sir Gaby Tolkowsky, perfected the brilliant cut 100 years ago – now known as the “ideal cut”? Did you know that visitors of the Intergem have the chance of winning unique pieces worth 13.500 € this year?
This year’s edition is sure to be exceptional once again: “Goldschmiede Weyrich” will present a copy of the chancellor’s “Deutschlandkette”. Sir Gaby Tolkowsky will take his audience into a journey of the beauty of the reflections of light, achieved only by the king of gemstones. And, whoever can answer three questions correctly has the chance to win either a tanzanite (4,87ct.) from Groh + Ripp, a necklace and pendant in rose gold with a total of 65 brilliants (vsi, 1,01 ct.) from Hans D. Krieger or a Gabrielle cut diamond (0,52ct. , brown, si) from Ph. Hahn Söhne.
But the Intergem has more to show: here you can find the highest concentration of know-how concerning the beautiful creations of Mother Nature in the world. “The gemstone and jewellery sector in Idar-Oberstein is an important industry, which has grown over centuries”, says this year’s guest speaker and economy minister Eveline Lemke and continues: “This branch is a vital part of our culture and we are very proud of it”. Renowned local and international companies present the world’s most beautiful facets and objects and therewith place the “Capital of Gemstones” into the focus of the professional world. All leading gemstone lapidaries, pearl retailers and technology suppliers are once again on board and will present goods from over 50 countries.
Jewellers and jewellery manufacturers can find a concentration of specialties and rarities unmatched in the world. New gemstone findings and innovative cuts premier at the Intergem before launching at the global market. The Intergem also shows where modern jewellery design is going: “The Intergem is a must for everyone who is looking for trends, reaches his customers and thereby steadies his position in the market”, says Jochen Müller, president of the diamond and gemstone bourse Idar-Oberstein.
