The Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) announced that respected research gemologist Franck Notari, co-founder of GGTL Lab, Geneva, Switzerland , will be speaking exclusively at the AGA Conference in Tucson, AZ, on February 5th. Notari will present recent research findings concerning radiation- including potential health hazards- associated with green diamonds.

Other eye-opening topics include presentations by Shane McClure (GIA) examining the natural blue sapphires with traces of beryllium that have been erroneously identified as “treated,” and a presentation by Olivier Segura (The French Gemological Laboratory, Paris) revealing the rise in identification errors and challenges related to natural pearl identification.
This year’s conference also includes Lore Kiefert (Gubelin Lab) who will present research findings from her recent trip to Burma; Thomas Hainschwang (GGTL laboratory) with discuss the importance of luminescence imaging and spectroscopy in synthetic diamond identification and color origin in diamonds; Manfred Eickhorst (System Eickhorst) to offer insight on the future of LED lighting in gemology; and AGA member Craig Lynch will share highlights from The Somewhere in the Rainbow Collection, a world-class collection of exceptionally rare gems and jewels.
