The Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai - April 23-25

February 2018

The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai, expects at least 1,000 visitors from India and abroad to take part in the first Bharat Diamond Week, to be held at the exchange from April 23-25. The event will see 225 Indian companies displaying polished diamonds to buyers from across the world.

“India is the largest diamond manufacturing centre in the world and BDB is the address of the largest diamond trading community in the country,” explained Mehul Shah, Vice President of BDB. “Though this is the first event of its kind being organised by BDB, we are confident that it will be a highly successful one.”

About 200 booths will be set up within the bourse, and companies will be invited to apply for them. “All booths will be standardised and be of the same size,” Shah said. “Each successful applicant company is eligible to have only one booth allocated, to give the widest number of companies an opportunity to participate.”

Shah explained that the India Diamond Week was being held to boost the business of the entire bourse, including the smallest companies and individual players.

“Visitors to the event will be moving around the bourse and we will also encourage them to visit the trading hall, where individual players can meet them,” added Shah. “In this way we expect that the benefits of the Indian Diamond Week will have a ripple effect and cover many more diamantaires than just those in the booths.”

The BDB is offering a substantial number of complimentary rooms to buyers and are expecting visitors to the event in hundreds.

The BDB is also planning a full-scale publicity campaign within the international diamond trade to attract the largest number of buyers. Not only will this be through traditional channels but BDB will also invite representatives of all member bourses of the WFDB, and even invite members of smaller bourses.

“India has the largest stock availability and a maximum inventory of the entire range of diamonds to offer buyers,” said BDB President Anoop Mehta. “As such, the India Diamond Week being organised by the BDB presents a not-to-be-missed opportunity for the entire international diamond community.”
