Akhor Le Temps en Equilibre Red Stromatolite: layers of time

Akhor brings geological history to its Le Temps en Equilibre collection. Set within a gold case, a suspended upper dial in red stromatolite reveals the layered patterns of fossilised microbial formations, making each watch visually distinct.

A

khor’s Le Temps en Équilibre gives stone an unusual stage. Its upper dial appears to float above a second disc, without visible attachment. Rendered in red stromatolite, this suspended construction introduces a material whose layered structure carries its own record of time.

Stromatolites are formations built by microbial communities, including cyanobacteria, with a history extending back billions of years. Their fossilised structures preserve successive layers that become intricate patterns when cut and polished. On these dials, deep browns, ochres and caramel tones mingle with darker markings, producing compositions that differ from one example to another.

Ochre, caramel and dark mineral bands trace the layered structure of red stromatolite. Individually cut and polished, the suspended stone dial gives each gold-cased Akhor Le Temps en Équilibre its own geological fingerprint.

Turning this material into a dial requires a delicate balance between thinness and strength. The stone is reduced to a few tenths of a millimetre, then individually cut, polished and adjusted. Hidden fissures and internal stresses can cause fractures during the process, making the material itself a determining factor in the finished result.

The red stromatolite version pairs its upper disc with a white lower dial, applied gold markers and gold hands with luminous tips. A 39mm gold case, measuring 11mm thick and featuring a diamond-set bezel, frames the display. Water resistance is 30 metres, while a hand-stitched white alligator strap with a diamond-set buckle provides contrast.

The manually wound AK-10 calibre runs at 4Hz and offers 60 hours of power reserve. Akhor specifies the Poinçon de Genève and chronometric certification from COSC and the Observatoire Chronométrique de Genève, complementing the dial’s individuality with mechanical credentials.
