ura Gems has been certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), following an independent third-party audit of its business practices against the RJC Code of Practices. This certification recognises the company’ commitment to responsible business conduct across its coloured gemstone operations, including governance, human rights, labour practices, environmental management, and supply chain due diligence.
The RJC Code of Practices is the jewellery industry’s leading standard for responsible sourcing and business ethics. Certification is granted following a comprehensive third-party audit confirming alignment with the RJC Code of Practices, which itself incorporates internationally recognised frameworks including OECD Due Diligence Guidance, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the IFC Performance Standards.
“This certification is an important milestone in Fura Gems’ development,” said Donald Bray, Chief Sustainability Officer at Fura Gems. “It reflects the work we have undertaken to strengthen our governance, management systems, and operational controls, and reinforces our commitment to transparency, traceability, and responsible mine operating practices aligned with international standards.”
“Fura Gems’ achievement of RJC Certification, as a certified member of our global community and the first coloured gemstone producer to reach this milestone, reflects a clear commitment to the highest standards of responsible business practice, transparency, and integrity across the supply chain. This accomplishment demonstrates strong leadership in meeting the RJC’s rigorous standards and sets an important benchmark for the sector. We look forward to continuing our work together to advance responsible practices across the global jewellery and watch industry,” said Purvi Shah, Executive Director of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
Fura Gems operates gemstone mining assets in Australia, and Mozambique and supplies responsibly sourced rubies and sapphires to international manufacturers and brands. The company has consistently invested in governance frameworks, operational controls, and traceability systems - including blockchain-enabled mine-to-market traceability - to meet the evolving expectations of the global jewellery and watchmaking industry.
“Responsible and traceable sourcing is fundamental to the future of our industry,” said Gianluca Maina, Global Marketing & Communications Director of FURA Gems. “RJC certification positions Fura Gems as a transparent and credible partner for clients and brands globally.”
RJC certification further reinforces FURA Gems’ strategy to operate as a responsible, industrial-scale producer aligned with international best practices and the requirements of global jewellery and watchmaking partners.
